Hella conversions will work great. No alterations required. Just make sure you don't strip the heads of those tiny screws that hold the chrome rings around the headlights.

Bavauto has the low and high conversion sets for $45 each, but maybe someone else (Maximillian?) has them cheaper. Just make sure the cheaper ones come with bulbs.

They're actually not so modern, since they've been around since the '60s, but they're still better than the off the shelf sealed beam quartz lights.

Some guys caution about the drain on the electrical system, but I never had any problem even with a full conversion.
