A modern California plate really has no bearing to its history. Example, a lot of poeple removed front plates years ago since it looks better without, but now a lot of people are getting tickets for not having a front plate (mostly for traffic cams), but the old front plate is long lost or tossed so they are forced to replace it. But, you can't get a replacement plate of the same number so you end up with a modern plate with new numbers. Same for personal plates such that was on mine that said "71 BMW CS" - (where is it today?). My point is that if a car on ebay or whatever has modern plates its no indication to its history.

I don't know anything specific about it, but the claim that it's a California car seems a little, shall we say, inflated, considering the fried egg license plate, circa early '90s. Sure, it's in California now, but that doesn't make it a California car to me (whatever that means).

If the seller is willing to play fast and loose with that bit of info, what else has he embellished?

I really do hope it's a great car, but the guy's advertising style makes me suspicious.
