Thanks for the useful bulletin board – I’ve been following for a bit because I’m interested in a coupe. It turns out I drove this car today, so I can tell you something about it, BUT this is the first CS I’ve ever driven, so my insight is superficial at best.
Here is what the current owner told me:
- The engine is not the original, it’s from a Bavaria, same year and is dual carbeurated 6 cylinder.
- The car was repainted a year ago to “nacht blue” (originally maroon). The paint looks very good.
- The front windshield is new.
- The back windows (electric) do not roll down.
- I looked for rust in the drain holes on the doors and saw none or anything that looked like it was painted over. No rust in the wheel well for the spare tire.
- The wood looks good.
- I originally saw the ad on La Jolla Independent (posted in May 01) and when I called I was told the interior was vinyl. When I drove the car, – I assumed vinyl. I saw the ebay ad this evening and was surprised to see leather advertised. I’m a bit confused here… In any case, the interior of the car is in very good condition.
- The speedometer does not work.
Being the first CS I’ve looked at and driven, I can say that the accelation was good, shifting smooth, and the steering true. Again, I can’t make a comparison to other coupes…
Any advice?
Aaron
Anyone out there know of this car? It is the Navy blue cs with tan interior on Ebay. It is located in Montarey, Ca and at first glance looks nice. Sellers ebay name is golfnut? Any help appreciated.
Thanks for the review. A lot of us are looking at these cars but can't always travel to see them.
