Hi Neil,
The guy at autosolution (short-shift kit) did numerous engine / tranny transplant before go into BMW performance upgrade business. He managed to stuff a Mustang 5.0 into an E9 sometime back, but found that the chasis is not stiff enough under heavy acceleration. Something to think about. Who can say you cannot beef up the frame though.

Will the M62 fit the CS bay and sit on the mounts OK? I ask because it fit the E34 body and the M30 (3.5L), which fits the E34 body as well, fits the CS.

IHMO, the M30 is still the best drop-in, but M62 engines are coming down to $2k or less now w/o transmissions.
