I did look into this once. The offset on 3 series is 40mm, while the coupe is in 22mm. I think one is positive and the other is negative, which make thing much worse. I almost purchased a set type 32 from a newer 3 serie. When I lay the 2 wheels next to each other, inside up. The measurement between the inner tire wall and mounting surface came out to be 1.5 inches difference between the 3 serie wheel and my e9 spare.

Does anyone know if the offset on wheels from a '98 e36 is compatable with a 2800cs? What is the offset on the 2800's wheels?
