When the time comes to look for one next year, I'll be sure to keep you in mind. I know how important it is to get someone familiar with the car to give an opinion. I'm that way about E30s and find that I can estimate a car easily in about 20-30 mins. With all the work I'm doing on the E34 M5, I'll be able to do that soon as well. Meanwhile I can't wait to get into a classic in the same way.
I guess you've seen Rob Anderson's write up at http://www.m535i.org/officers/ra/e9.html. That is pretty much what I would like to do though I keep hoping I'll run into a cheap S38 and G280 before I begin and be able to put that in. I love the S38 in my M5 and, like I keep saying, the S38 did come from the M49 in the CSLs.
Thanks!

That is true and I have spent quite a few dollars for small stuff that I wanted to change. Rubber stuff are the major expense and that car needed them all. But, as far as aluminum strips and chrome, you can have a good shop re-do those at a fair price. I think on my CSi, I had all the window chromes and rear light and center and door jams re-chromed and also had the beltline stripped and re-anodized, all for about $600! But, the major savings comes if you do the work yourself. I only trust myself to put things back together since I want them done right and not like the body shops to just want to get the car out quick. These cars are very easy to work on (time consuming though), as long as you label what goes where.
Well, amybe next year, I'll find another for you!
