Try Jim Blanton (Blanton Transmissions) in Kansas City or Metric Mechanic. The latter has a WWW site.

Hi Peter and Bill and All
Well, I finally had to pull the 265/5 CR apart in order to get the main selector rod bushing back in to its original place. It was actually fairly easy and came apart with a little heating of the cases. Now, while I have it apart I'd love to do some light mods in order to lesson the, I think typical, notchiness for this transmission. I'm thinking about increasing the chamfers where the detent balls engage into the selector rods, maybe using slightly softer detent springs etc. Do you have any experience with these type of modifications or can you point me in the right direction as to who may be willing to share their knowledge in that area. I've already spoken to "BMW transmission Guru" Peter de Latt who originaly installed beefier 11 ball bearings in place of some of the stock 9-ball bearings, but is unfortunately unwilling to share any of his trade "secrets". Any help or advice for possible modifications would be greatly appreciated as was your help in getting me this far. Thanks, Tom Colitt.
