If you look a picture posted a way down, you will see that the owner used a readily available "bulb" gasket or weatherstripping. Basically, the weatherstrip (factory or not) just slips over the edge of the sheet metal.

Another common way for fumes to enter is via the drain tubes. If the plastic/rubber tubes are missing or old, they will not act as one way valves to prevent fumes from entering. I believe www.justbmws.com sells reproductions of these long since NLA drain tubes.


Does anyone know where to find the rubber gasket that fits on the fresh air vent chamber wall under the hood? Originally, I think there may have been actually two or three pieces that fit on the top of the wall side to side. I have been getting some exhaust fumes and I think this area may be the culprit.
