Sam, it sounds like you don't do your own work. Thus, let the mechanic fix what's wrong, or he perhaps has caused.

My coupe is carbed, but to approach the linkage issues, I'd isolate portions of the linkage until the sticky part is narrowed down, then do what has to be done. Cleaning and proper lube should take care of it, unless something is bent, or installed too tightly.
