what memories...i too had a pool of oil from my first oil change, what i did wrong was i didn't make sure that the canister was properly into the housing as i was tighting the bolt. it was cocked to one side.yours will be the same.i remember i was just so happy to get the bolt started.recently i purched the newer style from an E12 cost $10.00
better luck next time

. Thankfully I have a back up vehicle that I can drive through the winter. My enthusiasm was getting the best of me.

Today I changed the oil and had my first exposure to the cannister style oil filter. After wrestling for 2 hours to get it off, I thought I had completed the job successfully. Apparently not.

The oil I added is now sitting on the driveway, a testament to some bone-headed mistake by myself. It was gushing out from the top of the oil filter.I did not replace the large, thin, o-ring type gasket but rather left the old one on. Was this my downfall?

Any suggestions about what I did wrong and or ideas for resources would be greatly appreciated.

TIA
