I couldn't get the truth about the salvage either and the story he tells is a little suspicious. I did tell him that the car is the US car and that story of being imported as salvage to save taxes just couldn't be. He claims that the owner gave him the car due to his making a large contribution to his charity and then one of his friends wanted and had it repainted and did some interior work. But, the friend's wife did not go for the car and that is why it is in the market now. I frankly couldn't tell if the car was in a major accident! The front fenders and body looked original, the rear looked okay other than I think the rear panels had worked done on them due to the missing of the sharp line on the side. There is rust on the floor pans and the driver's side had been cut out and replaced with metal (not original pan). There was no rust on the rockers that I could see and the spare tire well had rust. The interior is not very clean. The wood is shot and seems like someone has sanded it way past the veneer, especially on the instrument wood that had the vertical grain on it now, and the rears have screws right thru them to fasten to the body! The dash is cracked, the carpet is non-original material and looks, the headliner has been replaced. The seats are vinyl and are okay. The engine ran fine and the tranny is a ZF box and the shifter is bent to pass thru the slot (unlike mine that I had made a new slot for). The paint is not really that good. The car was originally Polaris anyway and there is a sticker to that effect, but the Karmann plate is missing. They have painted a lot of areas silver that did not need to be, like the toolbox's foam!!b
