Well... hmmmm. Maybe mine aren't the original seat belts. They were awkwardly installed (i.e. you have to connect the seat belt before closing the door) and they don't appear to have anything resembling springs or even a retracting "house".

These weird seat belts are only installed on the front seats. The back seats have working, airline-type adjustable seat belts... from a different car (Audi? Saab? I can't remember).

My car (a '72, by the way) doesn't have shoulder restraints.

So, if I were to buy the newer belts from Maximillian, can I get just the front lap belts? I'd prefer not to fool around with modifications....

The original belts are retractable (in my 73 anyway). The springs in yours are probably broken which is preventing them from snuging up to your lap. I am in the same boat with one of my lap belts. BTW: the later style '74 and on are more conventional belts but require modification to the rear seat arm rest to install.
