To a seller, rust is always superficial.

The undercoating applied 15 years ago could have been sprayed over rust forming then. Maybe not, but remember this is an old car and it was old 15 years ago.

It could very well be that the rust is minor, but the mere mention of the presence of rust causes me to insist on seeing the extent of it prior to shelling out my money.

You'll spend a lot more than an airline ticket repairing serious rust. If you're seriously interested in a CSi as opposed to a CS, the trip would probably be worth it.

The car is advertised elsewhere, so I would think you could buy it on the spot outside the auction.
