Thanks, Charlie

You may have put me on the path, will know more next weekend when I have more time. First of all, I verified that the pump has plenty of pressure, as a matter of fact the fuel rail was set way too high, at 38 psi vs. a target of 28 psi. I corrected this and needless to say the car did not run any better.

However...I think I may have an injector problem. I unplugged the no. 1 injector and the tone of the engine did not change, unplugged no. 4 and the darn thing nearly died. I think that at least the no. 1 injector is plugged or fried. The engine was so hot just now I could not get to the others. I'll let you know more when I take it apart.

Thanks again.

there are several possibilities, and since I'm not a D-jet guy, I may miss 'em all.

"Running out of breath" at high rpm can be a fuel pump that isn't keeping up, or a fuel delivery problem. Suggest verifying the capability/capacity of the pump.

There could be other areas besides the pump that prevent sufficient gas from getting in, but I don't recall how the system is set up. Seems to me that D-jet needs to know the difference between manifold pressure and atmospheric, but you probably got onto that.

I have seen a scanned version of the Bosch manual for D-jet, and printed my own version. I don't remember where I got it, but a web search should lead you to it - it worked for me.
