Reverse lights (archive)

Does anyone out there have experience troubleshooting reverse lights? Neither of mine work, I checked for voltage at the bulb with the ignition on and the car in reverse and got none. Suspect that the switch is inside the shift console and that it is either defective or misaligned, but I want some advice before I go tearin' into it.
