I had a 633csi - a year ago - with sunroof. When I bought it I scoured the whole vehicle for rust. Looked O.K so I parted with some hard earned cash. Six months later - caught in a severe storm and headline started to stain brown.

I removed the headline and the s/r tray collapsed completely rusted into my hands!. Blocked drain - by a cigarette butt!! ( The butt fell out in all the rust). The roof leak also caused severe rust in the pass floor - under the seat. Lesson learned - I should have looked there in the first place before buying.

Car was sold for parts. Nightmare story with a good ending - I now own an E9!. ( no sunroof!!)

sunroof cars do have a tendancy to get some roof rust, but it's certainly minor compared to the fenders, rocker panels, doors & quarter panels.

i think where s/r cars are more likely to show serious rust is in the quarter panels because of blocked drainage.

i've never seen a s/r coupe with serious roof rust, expect maybe a parts car that's been sitting outside for years. has anyone else out there?
