1. US cars came with 4 round headlights. Most of the cars that have the "euro" lights probably had them added somewhere along the way
2. Rust: look under the tops of the front fenders (above the tires) and see if there are holes in the box structural member there. Also, look at the floors carefully, as well as the front "frame" rails.
3. S14 conversion? I have a tii engine in mine. The car is maybe slightly faster than our '77 320i. I think the engine compartment is a little roomier than an '02. I've thought about putting in a small six (E30 2.5i). You need something you can get a transmission with a speedometer cable drive for. The driveshaft is different than the '02s and you'll probably need something custom made. If it goes faster you'll need bigger brakes and that may be a problem, since the 2000CS doesn't share brake parts with any newer BMWs.
