saw the car today. the had the alternator and battery out to repair something on the alternator - the car came to this dealer on a tow truck with the alternator dead.

unable to drive it, i climbed around it for a while and here are some notes (and I'll add more later). i can't post photos right away but I will in a little while.
- the hood opening bar is missing, I think the CSL is supposed to have a lighter weight bar but it should have a bar of some sort. the latch inside the glove box is near breaking and the wiring didn't look too good in there. with the battery out, I couldn't test anything of course...
- this is a town kit car: power windows, glass, and the like. but it has the CSL rear spoiler and the roundel on it looks wrong (not a big deal) anyway...
- the door panels inside were screwed onto the door with metal screws - yikes!
- the driver side mirror wasn't mounter right (I have a photo)
- there are speakers installed in the rear hand rests and a custom panel for a radio in there. there are two gauges added to the dash which look bad - I have a photo. the dash wood is in VERY good shape, so is the rest of the wood. the interior, other than the screwed on panels and a small rip on the pasanger seat is great to be honest.
- something about the paint job looked wrong, like it was sprayed over, etc. there are rust bubbles on the rear passanger side fender, under the bumper on the passanger side, and a few other places. there's a crack in the paint, turning brown, under the driver side side emblem. the nose panel has two _slight_ dents but the metal trim is new - they replaced that but did not fix those two little dings. some cracks on the paint in other places, very minor
- trunk lock looks pop-rivited and welded in, odd - i have a photo
- trunk is redone from what i can tell, I have photos, I mean some side panels don't look right and the shock towers have no plastic covers anymore (it should yes?) NO tools in the toolkit (but a perfect new tookit) and the tank smelled strongly of fuel. a little corrosion in the tire well, not serious I hope. the spare tire is an E12 14" wheel! the wheels are Alpina-type one-offset-bigger deals, fine tires.
- body looks straight, rear aluminum trim was a little off but it may just be me. glass looked good. I think I found rust or slight corrosion in the glovebox but I didn't have a light to check with : (
- carpet was good, probably new. doesn't look to have rust in the floor, etc.
- US headlamps, rear reflectors but no front reflectors, chrome grille on the front, front spoiler looks about right. the bottoms of the doors and the fenders are painted for an inch or so with a rougher paint like under the rear bumper, I don't know why.
- valve cover is from a later car... weird. 1976 cylinder head. fram oil filter in place of original. trunk lid has an antena put onto it.

anyway, I'll post more info. I personally did not like the car and they didn't know much history about it. I was not able to see it running or see the electrics on -- they will have it ready to run by next weekend they said. However it's really not so bad compared to some stuff I've seen, and I shouldn't say whether or not it's worth $24k -- perhaps CSL owners can comment. It looks like the car is German-delivery but I'm not sure of that either.
