Thanks Doug! From what I know, the shop heated and scraped off the old sound deadener. After the sheet metal had been brushed clean and rustproofed, they cut new pieces out of bitumen sheets (these are apparently readily available) and applied them to the shock towers. There is no special paint prepping, so when the Polaris paint is applied to the bitumen, it gets the characteristic yellowish hue.

very, very nice restoration, mathis. so how did you re-do the sound deadener on the front shock tower mounts in the engine compartment? it looks like a perfect fit. care to share your secret with the group?
