The story starts a couple weeks ago when the 2800 started overheating, thought it might be the thermostat. I've taken it out and had a devil of a time reassembling! I've gone so far as to not use the thermostat or the "o-ring". My last time of assembling I used Permatex #2 on the block and gasket and a "dry" joint on the radiator side housing, waited a few minutes for the Permatex to skin over, reassembled and brought up the torque on all four bolts gradually, refilled and drip, drip, drip!!!
What am I doing wrong??
This is not to say the $36 BMW thermostat seems a little long and the flange doesn't fit in the oring recess. How do you hold this in for reassembly??
