i have been doing the same thing,did all the dash with tasmanian hardwood,then a walnut stain then had it clear coated ,then sanded back,then clear coated,then sadeed back,then clear coated,one more trip to the panelbeater to go.looks great.
I did some experiments with a console piece with a walnut veneer. I only put the dark walnut stain on and haven't done the satin finish yet, but so far it looks good.



I was interested to read your message and guessed from it that you were an Aussie. I was interested to find out more about your dash work as I intend to attack mine at some stage. Is your panelbeater doing the work ? If so whereabouts is he? How did you come to choose that type of wood. I gather from looking at pictures and reading the board that Euro spec cars came to Australia and they are a bit different to the US models.
