Most folks seem to agree that 7 inch rims are an all-around easy switch, though 8 inch might fit at the rear, and clearance at the rear suspension can be tricky. I have an old set of 7.5 x 15 inch BBS RN's (now NLA) on my 2800CS with a little lip rolling at the front, and they work fine. The ride is a little stiffer but not harsh on the lower profile tires (Firestone GTA's) - not sure I'd go to 16's for that reason, but I have seen coupes shod that way. When I re-tire the car, I'll likely buy a set of Yoko AVS's - I have a set on my 2002 (the car, not the year), and I like 'em a lot, but only in summer. The most common, worry-free and "period" wheel upgrade seem to be Alpinas, but I hear that 15 inchers are NLA. Check with KSK. I'm thinking about putting a set of 15" or 16" x 7" BBS RS wheels off of an E28 on a second coupe - I've been told to avoid the same wheels with a "TRX" designation (generally found on the M6) because of their odd (metric) size and tire availability difficulties. Tirewise, you shouldn't have any trouble finding a terrific set of high-performance shoes for more than about $75 a tire. Yoko AVS, Dunlop DP's, Conti Contacts, Pirelli P6000, etc are all great tires. Hunt around on Tirerack's site for comparisons. The nice thing about moving to 15 inch tires is that the selection is much larger than at 14. A lot of tire makers seem to be phasing out 14's in a lot of lines.
