anyway, from my so far limited experience:
you'll shorten the driveshaft. measure it yourself (difference between the length of the 4-speed in the car and your new 5-speed) rather than having someone give you a figure (on my car it was 96mm though).
Check that the 5-speed has a mechanical speedometer drive. If it doesn't, check if it has a little gear so you can put in a speedometer drive from your 4-speed. If not, you have to do more stuff to get it in. If there's a plastic cap over the whole area, take it off and look under.
Anyway, there's quiet a bit of stuff that has to be done, involving the shifter and linkage, clutch output cylinder (but a new one, for an E12) and that sort of thing. Do you have a bel housing with your new gearbox?
