what's a 'sport' transmission? close-ratio? what does it say on the casting? where did you take it out of?

A sport tranmission is what we in the Netherlands (and I believe in Germany aswell) call a racing transmission. So yes, short ratio. This one was build in 1970, for the race editions of the 2800 CS.

you'll shorten the driveshaft. measure it yourself (difference between the length of the 4-speed in the car and your new 5-speed) rather than having someone give you a figure (on my car it was 96mm though).

I heard the number 96 mm. before, but will measure to be sure.

Do you have a bel housing with your new gearbox?

What's a 'bel housing'?
