I'd recommend that you do as much as you can yourself (change the oil, etc) to avoid spending more than necisary on maintanance.
Finally, it depends on the car you buy: it may need something done immediately and then after that it can be a good daily car. Maybe it needs cylinder head work, a gearbox, etc? If it's really a non-rusty car with a strong motor, by all means, go for it. You'll find it's not a big deal to drive it every day.

i've posted several times in the last week, and i've gotten some great answers and suggestions. so allow me to rephrase something i already asked. i want to buy a 1972 3.0 csi. It will be my only car. i love the styling and it drives very well.
however, i am concerned (my mechanic warned me about this) that it might be hard to get certain parts and that i might be out of a car for long periods of time while i am waiting for parts. i am also concerned that certain parts might not be available or might be exorbitantly expensive. or, that i will try to take the car on a road trip and that it will break down. i know that this kind of thing varies with auto moblie, but please share your stories with me -- they will help me make a decision.
is this better as a second car or can i depend on a clean, low mileage 3,0 csi?
thanks so much!
