Okay, thanks - I will give it a go. Of course, now I have to work out how to get at the back of the speedo -on a RHD this seems impossible without removing the instrument cluster, and that means remoiving the dash **shudder**.

get your hand up in there. Sometimes, it is easier to remove one of the other instruments to get access. I can twist my clock enough to get it out and just move it out of the way. I don't disconnect the wiring.
