I have all relative parts from both cars. Here is what I did when I restored my car: Used the 3.0 final drive adn speedo. Used the 2800 4-spd (ZF) unmodified. So, to me the speed is probably reading inaccurate due the speedo gear in tranny looking for the 2800 final drive ratio. I believe if I use my 2800 final drive, the speedo will become accurate (assuming 2800 and 3.0 used same diameter tire/wheel). Also, given the closeness of ratios between the two final drives, I will not notice much difference except a slight more relaxed engine on the highway. The bottom line is that my pinion bearing is shot on my LS 3.0 final drive. Hopefully, my 2800 final drive is also LS. I will check this weekend.
reading. The speedometer is "geared" to suit the diff. You should feel better acceleration but find higher rpms for a given highway speed.
You could swap in a 3.0 speedo, but the type for the numerals on the face differs slightly. Also, these speedos have plastic gears that tend to wear, so it might be just as well to send your speedo to someone like Hollywood Speedometer and have them adjust it to the new gearing (assuming you decide to stick with the 3.64s).
