Even the smallest projects seem to bring joy when done...Finally!
The trick to the lock removal was just as you guys said. There is a little spring clip on the removable cylinder that must be pushed in through a little hole at 9:00 position.
The dealer actually shipped in the correct part. First time I installed without the steering wheel set right and the switch didn't turn. It works now although it takes quite a bit of force.
