shock absorbers - advice sought (archive)

I've searched the archives and can't find the right advice.

This morning I broke a rear shocker. While reversing at less than 10 kph across a kerb, the right hand rear shock absorber shaft snapped clean. Nothing under the car appears to have broken to allow the rear end to move and the upper and lower mounts are fine so I'm at a bit of a loss to explain it..
But its bought forward the replacement of the shockers I had planned.

I'm thinking of Koni's but want to retain the standard ride height on my 73 CSi. The car is driven on the streets only I'm not going to do any club racing.
Can anyone suggest a shock model to use?
TIA
Steve
