There are some benefits to the change, but it's some trouble. The beauty of the L-Jet is that the US version will take an O2 sensor input which will let the car run successfully leaner. The injectors are cheaper, but nearly as rare.

Two resources on this conversion are 1. A series of articles in Roundel magazine last year by Rob Siegel "The Hack Mechanic". Siegel sometimes refers to his Coupe and the progress on this installation, but so far the articles are less than how-tos and more story. 2. From www.firstfives.org you can get a parts list for systems from the '80-'81 528i's that are the primary mules for parts. The list is a part of converting an E12 to L-Jet with lambda.

I doubt that you'll get any more power from the L-Jet equipment, but the fuel mileage will improve.
