KYB shock absorbers (archive)

I'm replacing my 73 CSi shockers with Koni's but the guy at the shop is trying to convince me to consider KYB's on the grounds that as I don't run the car in club competitions or drive it that hard, KYB's would make a cost-effective replacement.

Does anyone have any thoughts on the matter?

I did an archive search and only found one entry - "they're junk" from Merdad. I was wondering if they've updated their technology recently or done anything that might win back a damaged reputation?

PS Rob thanks for the advice..
