this is what i am using.new compared to old

I'm putting together a shifer for my 265 and I'm wondering what the best amount of throw reduction would be. The stock E12 265 shifter has a ball-to-pivot distance of 26mm. I have the lower shifters from both a 2002 and a 320i. The 320i has a distance of 33mm and the 2002 is 39mm.

Although the relationship is not linear, it is close. If you do the math, the throw reduction using the 320i shifter is 27% and using the 2002 part is exactly 50%.

What are people using (numerically)? I'm worried that a 50% reduction will increase the shift effort too much. I've been told that the 265 has to move more metal than the 262 or 260. Anyone have real-world experience here?
