The local parts house only had the release bearing with the plastic section, I didn't get it since I seem to have heard that the plastic ears may break off. Will research availability of all steel bearing.

The note to put the slave on the bell housing prior to installation sounds useful, but how hard can it be? Only two nuts...

As for seals, I have changed the shift rod seal, the f&r main seals look good and didn' t show evidence of leakage when I pulled the trans. Really should change them, I know, just gotta get to it.

I think you have to use, what they call "plastic bearing" the material is made out of hard plastic.
You are correct, there is no retaining spring.
I think its easier, also to install the slave cylinder on the bellhousing / tranny prior installing the tranny in place. Make sure the slave cylinder positioned so the leak valve is pointing down.
Its good idea change rear tranny seals... After I finished installing my tranny, I found out there is #@&%!^ leak somewhere (top seal, I think)
