I think what's happening is this: the "old" guibo is a donut, while the "new" ones appear to be cut from a flat sheet of rubber.

The difference in thickness is about 1/2 inch less for the "new" type.

This might be no problem. Loosen the big sleeve/nut at the splined section and "stretch" your driveshaft as much as you need. I did my four speed conversion and stretched the dshaft about 2-1/2 inches. In five years it has not given be trouble; Carl Nelson says it's okay too FWIW.

About to go to five speed myself.
