I think when you install the slave cylinder the through lever gets leveled and the bearing will be more stable while trying to slide the tranny into place... definitely you can install the tranny without the slave cylinder mounted...

The tranny I got was oily and dirty, but after cleaning it was shinny and no sign of oil leaks. But now there is leak somewhere (it pisses me off)

I used my old auto tranny drive shaft, but I had to change the tranny rear output flange, where the rubber coupling gets attached and the drive shaft. The original 1" flange was short / thin, the new flange approx 2 1/2"
