If you try to install the bell with the slave on, you will have a hell of a time pushing it on to the block to line it up. That tiny bit of spring loaded pressure the slave provides pushes the arm towards the engine.

I left it off, and just used a big rubber band to hold the bearing to the arm. Once the bell was bolted on, the bearing wont move around much. Cut the rubber band off before inserting the gear box.

I'm dragging together the 265 conversion bits on the garage floor.

The clutch release bearing from the donor 528i has the bearing sleeve machined with two flats which fit nicely in the internal release arm. No apparent retainer spring for the release bearing - was there supposed to be one?

Also, the new release bearing is different - has a pressed metal extra bit thats bent to form two ears parallel to the shaft. I suspect this is for the external release arm type, and won't fit the internal release arm. Anyone confirm this?
