use some carb or brake cleaner spray. with the engine running spray it in and around all of the areas with gaskets, seals, and vacuum ports. You may have missed putting one of the manifold to head gaskets I'd bet. :)

Question?
I have a 72 3.0CS that I had to pull a rear carb off for a starter repair, thought I put it back correctly.I know the timing is off and I am rotating the distributor enough where I can get it to run but it keeps backfiring out of both Webers. Is this strictly a timing problem.I can get it to stop backfiring at about 2000 rpm but lower than that it spits gas out the top about 3 ft.Is there an easy way to get the timing close enough to stop backfiring where I can get it to idle to fine tune it?

Many,many thanks.
Jim C
