: I used to be in the business so all the BA stuff came from odd channels but I think the retail is in the $700-800 range if I recall correctly.

: Subs, rear fill etc - I bought the car with the HK package thinking that I had many audio show cars and this one was going to be left stock. That idea lasted about 6 months and the HK went out the window. The HK comes with 6x9's in the rear so their is a bracket for them that I used. You can probably get this from your dealer and bolt it right onto the non-HK system as the openings are the same.

: Subs - I originally had 2 JL 10W6's in the trunk in a sealed enclosure. They departed because of several reasons:

: 1) They weighed a lot and screwed up the cars handling. Putting extra weight on the rear axle is exactly where you don't want it in this car.

: 2) Even with tons of power they never really sounded all that great because of the sealed trunk of the M3. There is a huge standing wave created in the trunk and it does all sorts of funky things to the sound of the subs. I have heard of people playing with different openings into the passenger compartment, etc. but I wasn't all that interested in spending my time there.

: 3) The 6x9's are essentially using the trunk as an enclosure. When you start having a sub pounding in the trunk the 6x9's start moving with the sub instead of how they are supposed to be. This causes all sorts of sound issues.

: So for now, I have taken all but low midbass and bass out of the 6x9's with an EQ and am using them for most of my bass production. I am missing a couple of low octaves but I don't really mind, been there done that with subs before and they aren't really my thing.

: Basically my system images great, has good depth, and clarity but lacks a little in the low end. It also weighs nothing and thus doesn't change the cars characteristics at all. I am trying to go further and get rid of some more weight by dumping my 2 channel amps for 1 multichannel amp.

: Hope this helps...

: Regards,
: Preston

Preston,

What head unit do you have? Is there any way to keep the factory deck and add non BMW components (amp/changer)?
