: How and where would I upgrade the rear-differential?
: : : I've got a 98 M3 w/ the Dinan chip and cold air intake. Am concidering the Supersprint or Dinan exhaust. They claim 10-15% HP & Torque increase (that would equal 24+) which seems like it would be very noticable. I'm looking for more low end torque, 0-80 acceleration speed rather than top end speed. Would an exhaust system quench my thirst? Which one has the best results? Are there any other methods to get more low end power and acceleration without dumping a grip of cash?
: : All the talk about exhaust systems and the gains of 10-15% HP is BS. Supersprint has been proven to be about the best there is in shear performance fig's and if you look at the dyno tests we're talking about 8-9, maybe 10HP Max! (Check it out with a realiable shop that knows and isn't just interested in selling another exhaust system if you don't believe me.) If you don't already have a chip get the Jim C.
: : You say you want low end improvement in the 0-80 speed range. The best AND most cost effective manner in which to do this is upgrading your rear diff from the standard 3.23 to a 3.46 with 50% lock. Save your money and spend the $800+ on this upgrade. It'll by far be the best $800-$1000 you'll spend and achieve some amazing acceleration and torque performance AND you won't have the cops hear you coming from 3 blocks away!
BMP has them among others. - see their site. Also, a guy by the name of Jeff Henderson in CT is doing some very good ones, email [email protected]
Jeff does a fair bit of SCCA racing across the northeast and central areas and knows a lot! he is doing mine in the next few weeks/month.
