I thought the $$$ was pretty steep too. I bought an Autoloc keyless entry system from BMP for $150. You can buy this unit from BMP or Autoloc themselves (same price). Fairly simple install...only took me about an hour. All you have to do is remove about 6 screws to remove the dash, unplug the glovebox light, and plug it in to the factory socket. Then put everything back together...and you're done.

My dealer said something similar, I felt he just wanted to sell me the system. BUT, when I took my car in to have the stereo replaced (under warranty) a while back, they actually placed the keyless entry system in a better location than where I had put it.

The alarm from autoloc is only a hundred dollars more, but I'm not sure if it is as simple of an install as plugging it in to the factory port like the keyless system.

It's been in my car for two years with no problems. Email me if you have any questions. Check out the link...the instructions are on their website.
