I am planning on installing an amp on my 95 M3 non HK also. I would like to know which wires go to where
on the head unit. Can you tell me how you did it?
: I purchased a premade box and installed the subs and wired everything in myself. My car was not optioned w/ the Harmon/Kardon unit. Through trial & error, I figured out which wires to tap into the left & right channels going from the head unit to to the BMW amp. I spent $600 total -$200 for the Amp, $175 for the two subs, $120 for the sub-box, $40 for Monster Speaker wires, $40 miscellaneous items [speaker covers, RCA jacks, Molex Plug, screws, 12GA stranded copper wires, terminal blocks] and about an hour of my own labor.
: I compared the mono 8" or 10" subwoofer setups and then having heard the large subs, I wanted to have better and more accurate reproductions with tight [string] bass. A sealed box design was thus selected over the ported box for this reason. The enhancement to an otherwise standard sound system in the BMW is worth the extra space taken up by the box. About the only time that I actually need to give up the box for the added trunk space is when my family goes on weekend trips and vacations. In those roadtrips, however, I spend such time conversing with my toddler and wife anyway.
: Others have suggested that blocking the low frequencies with a resistor tapped inline to the speaker wires of the BMW woofers improve the overall sound even further. I have to tell ya, with the sound I am currently enjoying with these subs, there is NOTHING that I care/need to do.
