: Bruce-

: Was the compressor that came with your Roadster an option offered by BMW? Or a dealer add-on?

: If an option, does you have a part number? I was thinking of getting one for my 98 M3 Conv.

well since i have an M roadster (and therefore no spare tire) it is BMW's answer for that (oh, i also get lifetime roadside assist for any flat tire)- it is a standard feature of the M roadster/coupe (and the upcoming M5). There is a place in the trunk that it fits in, but that place isn't there in the M3. The unit is rather bulky. It's primary function is to blow some "fix a flat" goop into the tire to seal a puncture and inflate the tire (BMW was nice enough to design it to work as a straight air pump- which comes in handy at the track and autox).

Sorry to be misleading, just trying to point out that cig lighter units work ok. I thouhgt most people knew the roadster didn't have a spare tire.
