: 5.5sec 0-60 is a 2nd gen..not a 3rd gen. I sold my 94 RX7 prior to buying my M3. 5.3sec 0-60 was the spec 0-60 time....I could get 5.2sec with a perfect launch, which was extremely difficult. Brad's right about mods....after mine was modified, it flew.
That's incorrect. The 2nd gen turbo RX-7 came in two models...the 87-89 model with 182 hp and the 90-91 model with 200 hp. The 87-89 model had a curb weight of 2850, while the 90-91 model weighed 3000 lbs. The 93+ models went to 255 hp and dropped the weight back to around 2800 lbs. The best 0-60 I've ever heard of with a stock 2nd gen turbo was low 6's, and the usual times were mid to high 6's (nothing to sneeze at of course). The M3 weighs about 3150 lbs and produces a very strong 240 hp (I say strong...IMHO the engine is a little underrated by the factory)...I've timed 0-60 of 5.5 seconds and 14.0 1/4 miles (100 mph trap speed) in my '97 model.
