I was at a BMW CCA car clean up event this weekend in the Boston area, one of the guys at the shop that hosted it had this great stuff from a company call Wurth called "Rubber Care." It works so well on the door handles (E36 versions that is) as well as the black plastic rub strip on the bumpers and the door moulding. It is great stuff!! I found the web site for it: http://www.wurthflorida.com/pclmtc.html

It is silicon free so it is not going to destroy the paint if you overspray a bit. I think it is a bit pricey, like $15-20 for a bottle, but it works!! BTW I haven't dealt with this company so I don't know what they are like.
