: Hey, I've loved the M3 since I was about 12, I am now 16 and am looking for a car for myself and would love the fast, and usually affordable E30 M3...however, would you guys suggest buying this as a first car, or do you feel the maintenence and repair is far to expensive. I would love to hear of any problems or tips you guys may have...thanks
: And by the price range is about 11000 max

Go for it! I just bought an 88 M3 for my son who gets his license this week (16). I bought the car for $4500 w/131k miles on it. I've put another $2k into it to make sure everything is ok for him. He won't be the primary driver and will use the car for his summer job and short trips. I had a 68 GTO as a 16 year old and not all teenagers are irresponsible. My insurance agent didn't even bat an eyelash when I told her to add my son to the M3, 735, and 71 GTO. She said it doesn't matter because he's in the highest (costliest) class of driver anyway. It raised my monthly insurance payment $30.

The cars are a little temperamental for driving around town but they are no more difficult to drive than any other BMW with a stickshift. The M3 requires a little more aggressiveness driving in order to keep the sparkplugs clear.

Maintenance can be expensive but look around for the best deals on parts and labor.
