The Yakima Components for an E36 coupe are listed in the Yakima "fit list", I used them for a year and they were fine. I'm using the q-tower setup now on my M3/4 and it works well also. Are you sure you have the right clips and towers for your e36 coupe?

: I wrote about this last week. There is NO Yakima roof mount kit available for 2 door E36s. I have a one year old Yakima rack from my last car which is now useless to me. My new Thule rack is made much better, and as long as I don't mount it on a dirty car, it will never scratch the paint.
: Stay away from trunk racks, unless you have a convertible. They rely on straps which always have some play, and the front bike tires can rub the paint on your bumper if you're not careful.
