: Statistic: Its been reported that up to one out of three used cars have had their odometers tampered with or do not display correct mileage.

: I'm not passing judgement here, but here's something to think about...

: By dumb luck, I found out that I had purchased a car that had the odo tampered with to the tune of about 70K miles. Needless to say, I was pretty pissed and walked into the first lawyer's office I could find.

: I documented the whole thing, sued the previous owner, and won (easily, I might add...) Under the Federal Statute, the victim (and I use that word for a reason here) can sue for TREBLE damages -- that's THREE TIMES the difference in value, plus attorney's fees. We received three times the difference between the actual value of the car and the purchase price, mileage for all the trips to the attorney's office, various expenses, attorney's fees, and to ice the cake *I KEPT THE CAR*!! Total bill to that sucker: about $25K. The stupid bast*rd had to sell his house and take a loan to keep from going to prison.

: So, if you're some young whippersnapper out there thinking about doing this, go ahead, but consider the fact that it just might cost you BIG TIME. Because there are people out there like me who will sue you poor butt and win in a heartbeat.

: Flame suit on. Law suit won already.

How did you catch that S.O.B.?????
