There is a period of time during which the brakes need to "bed in", or wear the little grooves and ridges of the rotor into little matching ridges and grooves on the pads. Braking power is often somewhat reduced during this break-in period due to less pad contact with the rotor. I don't know about the squealing however. Mine do it all the time.
