ASC On or Off (archive)

I took my M3 to Sears Point (High Performance Course) a few days ago, and was told to turn off the ASC for better traction. I have a few questions regarding that.

1) Why does turning off the Stability Control offer better traction around the track?

2) Would turning off ASC on the street offer a better launch? For 0-60mph or for 1/4 mile.

3) At what RPM do you normally start your street launch?

4) Does anyone really remove their spare tire to get rid of the extra ~40lbs?
