: I recently purchased a 95 M3 with 35,000 miles on it. Lately though I've been hearing a funny noise when I turn the steering wheel all the way in either directions. It's kind of a higher pitched humming noise...doesn't sound like anythings going to fall apart but it isn't pleasing. Is there a problem with my steering pump...or is it too early for something like that?

: This is completely separate but when shifting from 1st to 2nd, I hear a *clunking* sound from under my car as I step on the clutch. Only between those two gears though.

: Also, as I'm reving the car in neutral, I occasionally hear a chattering noise...hard to explain. It sounds like small pieces of metal loose in the engine.

: Well, I think that's about it. Overall, the car is in good condition and feels pretty strong. (Only mod is an aftermarket exhaust).
: Thanks for any and all input!

All your strange noises are typical.
On the first one, sometimes switching to a high quality synthetic fluid makes it go away.
I can't help you with the second one but my car did this also.
The third noise sounds like your VANOS, they all do that. If the car feels fine other than those noises don't sweat it, if it really bothers you that much take it to the dealership.
